New Zebra crossing at Junction of Burrard Street with Halkett Place

13 November 2007

The Transport and Technical Services Department will be installing a new zebra crossing across Burrard Street at its junction with Halkett Place this week, to assist pedestrians in crossing this busy junction.

Initially, a road hump will be constructed and Burrard Street will be closed on Wednesday 14 November between 7pm and 10pm approximately.  An additional evening’s road closure on 29 November at the same times will also be required to install the amber flashing lights in the road surface.  As this work is weather dependant, the precise evening may be changed nearer the time.

Laying the new road surface to form the hump and the installation of the flashing road lights will be a noisy operation throughout both three hour periods.  This is unavoidable, regrettably, but the contractors will be keeping the noise to the absolute minimum.

During the road closure, traffic approaching Burrard Street from Union Street will be diverted along Don Street, Waterloo Street, Halkett Place and into Minden Place in a temporary contra flow arrangement.

The Parish of St Helier is sharing the cost of the provision of this crossing with Transport and Technical Services.
